CAROLYN THOMPSON

Carolyn Thompson was born in 1976 in Darlington. She attained a BA Hons at Coventry University School of Art and Design (1999 – 2002) and an MA in Sculpture from Wimbledon College of Art (2002 – 2003).

Thompson has had six solo exhibitions to date including Precious Cargo Shandy Hall, North Yorkshire (2011); Centre Point Solihull Arts Complex, Birmingham (2008); All Times Local Maus Habitos, Portugal (2006); Missing Hans Price Gallery, Weston-super-Mare, UK (2006). Her first solo exhibition with the Eagle Gallery Great Loves and other works took place in 2014. She has also participated in numerous international group exhibitions including Artists’ Books on Tour Vienna, Ljubljana and Prague (2011–2012); Trifold: New Perspectives on Book Arts – Williamsburg Art & Historical Centre, New York (2010); I will cut thru: Pochoirs, Carvings and Other Cuttings – The Centre for Book Art, New York (2010); Banned Books in Australia – Baillieu Library, University of Melbourne, Australia; Yalmizim Ama / I am Alone But – Daire Sanat, Istanbul; Meeting Point – 18th Istanbul Art Fair (2008); Folie à plusieurs – MCO Gallery, Porto (2008); and Border Line – Çanakkale State Art Gallery and Andana Biennial, Turkey (2007).

Thompson was Artist in Residence at Shandy Hall, North Yorkshire (2010/11 and 2005) and winner of the Emerging Artist Award – Solihull Arts Complex, Birmingham (2007/08); and the Coventry Open Exhibition, Coventry (2001). Her works are held in various private collections and public collections include the Laurence Sterne Trust, Shandy Hall, Coxwold; Penguin, London, Teesside University Artist Book Collection and the York College Artists Book Collection.
