JAMES FISHER
EAGLE GALLERY CABINET ROOM
December 2020
We are delighted to be re-opening on 4 December with Sylvania by James Fisher – the second exhibition in the Eagle Gallery Cabinet Room.
Sylvania is a series of tiny oil paintings on panel that continues preoccupations Fisher has explored in earlier work which examined the spiritual and psychic connection between humans and the landscapes we inhabit. Borrowing from traditions of Pahari miniature painting, originating in North India (17-19C), he has transposed colour and detail from the miniature’s schematic rendering of trees, hills and streams to depict landscapes of memory and the imagination. Observed details from the countryside around his Gloucestershire home – palm trees in an abandoned arboretum, the dense foliage on a golf course, a clearing in an ancient forest – are transformed in an other-worldly schema.
The Eagle Gallery Cabinet Room is open Wed – Sat by appointment. Please do get in touch if you would like to visit. Email: emmahilleagle@aol.com, or telephone 020 7833 2674.
